For those of you who think I work in New York, guess what?
I actually work from my home in South Carolina.
It's kind of crazy that this story on the USA Today website...
was created in this room filled with toys, and a green screen.
But there it is.
Does anyone want to come over and play Catan later?
I will ride roller coasters when under pressure. I'm pretty sure that is what happened today, but I'm ok with it, because the roller coaster was awesome!
It all started with a video I made when the footage of the Fury 325 came out, and honestly, I thought it looked like torture!
I then ended up being invited to ride the Fury 325, even though I called it torture 3 times in my previous video.
My friend suggested I "put on my big girl panties" and get on the Fury, and I decided she was right. Here's what happened:
It is definitely worth the ride.
It's the first Monday of January and I'm sitting here at my computer mustering up some confidence to pitch ideas to people. It can be exhausting to wait and see if anything I propose will be accepted and what ideas will be rejected.
This is the constant struggle of someone who is self-employed and creative; asking for work, creating work, and finally monetizing the whole effort. There is nothing simple or easy about these tasks.
I have been fortunate to actually be paid for what I do. This is amazing and I feel blessed, however that work does not remove the need to constantly have to find...
This is a post I wish I could have done a few weeks ago, but can just now share all the happenings!
If you are a fan of One Minute News, you will notice that nothing has been produced there since August 15th. This makes me very sad, because I loved working with Jim, Mack, Jennie, and Maureen. However, sometimes there is nothing you can do but cry a little (or a lot) and move on; which is what I have done.
I am now working with two new fabulous groups: Buzz 60 and Paste Magazine.
I do still love talking about the news. Every time I read a story, I think of a snarky comment that...
I am often asked by OneMinuteNews fans, "Why can't I just sort the stories by anchor?"
I have answered this request by creating a playlist of all my OneMinuteNews stories. Everyday around 3pm I add the newest video chatter from the day.
You can SUBSCRIBE to my channel (which would make me really excited), and connect with me there.
Then you won't miss any of my stories, like this one below:
There has been so much praise today for the one "normal" Miss USA contestant, Miss Indiana. She is a gorgeous girl with curves. She has been praised for her bravery and for her "normal" body. Apparently, it's brave to be normal. Or rather, it's brave to be slightly larger than the majority of the women in the pageant world.
But I can't help thinking -- while all this praise for the "normal" model fills social media, what are we saying about the thin girls? Can't they be normal too? As a very petite woman, am I not "normal"? Maybe I should try to gain 10 or 20 pounds to fit into the "normal"...
Sometimes we hear something that just sticks in our minds. I'm sure Beth Grant didn't plan to make such an impact on me, but she did. In fact, since I heard her speak I have thought about her words and message over and over again in my mind.
I was able to meet Beth, which was a surprise and delight, as an added bonus I got to listen to her speak to my friend Michael Dunaway (He is the movie editor with Paste Magazine which is amazing, you should subscribe!) about acting. I wish I had exact quotes, but I left with a message impressed on me. She spoke about starting out in the industry, and that...
As I told you in my last post, I went to SXSW alone. I was scared but totally jazzed to be in the middle of all the amazing independent film projects in Austin!
One of my favorite red carpets was for "Creep", a movie by Mark Duplass, Patrick Brice, and Jason Blum. First of all these indie mavericks are all as nice in person as you would want them to be. Second, they didn't mind my One-Man-Band approach to SXSW. They were encouraging, and spoke to me like any other media outlet.
One of my top picks to meet while in Austin, was Mark Duplass. I love his films, and I especially...
Before I get into telling you about my first red carpet, let me tell you…I am still pinching myself.
I MET JASON BATEMAN AND KATHRYN HAHN!!!
I decided I wanted to go to SXSW in November. I applied for a press pass through OneMinuteNews and was approved.
The only problem was I couldn't get anyone to go with me. I called friends in Austin, tried to get South Carolina friends to go, but for all kinds of different reasons, no one could go.
So I was forced to decide. Did I go ahead alone or not go at all?
Ultimately, I knew I would regret missing this opportunity.
